Gideon Emery was born on the 12th of September 1972 in Windsor, England. He moved to South Africa with his parents and, being an only child Gideon amused him self by imitating voice from T.V and radio. He studied at the
University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, although accepted for both Fine Arts and Drama he ultimately opted for Drama. While studying he auditioned for a professional theatre production, this is where he was discovered by the late stage actor Bill Flynn. This led to him signing with a top agent and his career forged.Gideon’s first big break came on when he landed a role on the T.V show Not Quite Friday Night, a Saturday Night Live type sketch show, as one of the core performers. This highlighted his natural ability for accents and characters. At the same time, he began what was to become a prolific voice career on both radio and TV. He went on to win a Gold Craft Award for voice-over at the Loerie Advertising Awards.
From here, he went on to appear in the phenomenally successful farce Heel Against the Head, once again alongside veteran Bill Flynn and pre-eminent South African playwright, Paul Slabolepszy. His performance won him the Vita Award for Comedy (the local equivalent of America's Tony Awards.
Gideon is also a singer and joined cult acapella group Not The Midnight Mass. He combined his comedy and musical ability in the critically acclaimed Thin Man Talking and Great Glendini, for which he recorded a jazz standards album.On screen, Gideon has appeared in the BBC biopic Rhodes, alongside Kelly LeBrock and Robert Davi in the fantasy The Sorcerer’s apprentice, opposite Steven Bauer in the western Glory, Glory, and with Lou Diamond Phillips and Kristy Swanson in the thriller Red Water. Since relocating to Los Angeles, credits include guest appearances on 24 and CSI:NY, and leading roles in the features Primeval, Train and the upcoming film Takers to be released in 2010.
